What is Victim Offender
Conferencing?
- Allows the victim to give input and
play a role in developing a restitution plan for the offender.
- An opportunity for the victim to
tell the offender of the physical, emotional, and financial impact it has
had on them in a safe environment.
- A program that provides the victim
and offender the opportunity to meet and engage in a discussion of the crime
with the assistance of a trained facilitator.
- A program that offers alternatives
for youth to avoid a criminal record and still be held accountable for
his/her wrong doings.

Victim Offender Conferencing?
- Crimes in which the victim is
willing to participate.
- Youth offender is in grades 7
through 12.
- Youth attends one of the schools
with in Ogle County.
- Youth admits to involvement in
incident.
- Youth offender never having been on
probation and has no cases pending.

What we have learned from research?
- Victims of crime who meet their
offender are far more likely to be satisfied with the justice system
response.
- After meeting the offender, victims
are significantly less fearful of being re-victimized.
- Offenders who meet their victims
are more likely to complete their restitution and be accountable for their
behavior.
- Considerably fewer and less serious
crimes are committed by offenders who meet their victim/s.
